{"id":2438,"date":"2016-02-29T11:22:29","date_gmt":"2016-02-29T11:22:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stourpaine.info\/matters\/?p=2438"},"modified":"2016-02-29T11:22:29","modified_gmt":"2016-02-29T11:22:29","slug":"action-fraud-the-good-citizen-award-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stourpaine.info\/matters\/2016\/02\/29\/action-fraud-the-good-citizen-award-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"Action Fraud &#8211; The Good Citizen Award Scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Action Fraud has been receiving reports of an advanced fee fraud whereby suspects phone a member of the public and claim to be calling on behalf of the UK (or British) Government Grant Department.<\/p>\n<p>They go on to state that the individual has won a Good Citizen Award \u2013 of typically \u00a38,000 \u2013 and that the grant can be released for a fee (of around \u00a3210).<br \/>\nFortunately, very few members of the public have lost any money as a result of this scam but have reported to Action Fraud in order to help build a picture of this fraud and protect others from falling victim to it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Protect yourself:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There is no genuine \u2018Good Citizen Award\u2019 scheme in the UK that operates by cold calling \u201cwinners\u201d and asking for an upfront fee to release a grant.<\/li>\n<li>If you receive a call that claims to represent such a scheme, it is a scam.
